A Message from Lauren Harton, UUFE Board President

This year my family traveled to the Florida Keys and the Grand Canyon. These two landscapes could not be more different from one another. The crystal blue waters of Bahia Honda State Park and the layers of colors and shadows down the walls of the Grand Canyon are both breathtaking. So is the view of the Chesapeake Bay from the top of the Bay Bridge which welcomes us home from our adventures. While exploring our country is exciting, a feeling of calm and comfort overwhelms me as the car descends down the Eastern Shore side of the bridge. That same feeling of calm and comfort welcomes me through UUFE’s doors each week as well.
Your year end contribution will help UUFE maintain its calm and comforting open doors through our ministry transition. As the days grow shorter, the wind blows colder, and the political landscape of our country shifts, UUFE has the light, love, and hope that we all need. Rev Sue, our longest consecutive serving minister, will move on to new adventures this coming June. Our local leadership at the school board, town, and county level continue to be influenced by national hate groups. Countrywide, we brace ourselves for chaos and upheaval that feels likely to come. This change is easier to adapt to when you have the support of a spiritual home.
UUFE inspires hope, is a place of support and acceptance, and a grounding spot for us in giving our voices to advocacy, our hands to help, and our energy to organize. As a whole, the members and friends of UUFE are feeding the hungry, preserving our native history and cultural heritage, creating safe spaces for children and youth to learn and question themselves, planting trees, cleaning up our waterways, engaging in local and national politics, sharing humanity with those incarcerated, and so much more.
Year-end contributions to UUFE help widen our net of inclusion by supporting fellow members who need a spiritual home to fill them up while they continue to connect and engage in social justice work. Your contribution can help us navigate the unknown expenses of ministry transition. Whether you can add an extra $10 to the plate next Sunday or mail in a check for $1000, I am grateful for your contribution. Donations by mail, online through the Donate button, or added to the plate on Sunday morning are all gratefully received and show your commitment to our future.
In love and peace,
Lauren Harton
UUFE Board President
