UUFE’s Board of Directors met in August 2025 and declared a resolution on the 2011 UUA Statement of Conscience and Immigrants in Our Community. After an introduction reviewing the religious principles at stake, the Board supports these resolutions:
- All immigrants, regardless of legal status, should be treated justly and humanely; and we do not condone the disregard of civil and human rights or failures to abide by our country’s due process clauses in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
- Immigrants in our communities are our neighbors, we cherish the perspectives they bring, and the many ways they have contributed to our community;
- We cannot condone the manner in which the arrests and detentions of our immigrant neighbors have happened or how those in custody have been treated. These actions do not represent who we are or what we value. We believe this action violates not only the core principles of our faith but also our nation’s long history of striving toward justice and compassion.
- We are heartened and encouraged by the outpouring of support for immigrants who have been detained in our community. We join in solidarity with those defending their rights and dignity and calling for their immediate release and return to our community.

UUFE Board of Directors, August 13, 2025
I thank everyone the Social Justice Committee and the Board for supporting this resolution. It is just one more reason I’m so proud to be a member of this liberal religious community.
