Investing in UUFE

(First published on 2/29/24 in UUliFE)

Last Sunday I preached about the opportunity to invest in UUFE through our annual stewardship campaign. During Thoughts for All Ages, I shared the story about a set of markers given to Demon, a boy from Appalachia who faced many challenges, and considered the ripple effect of this set of markers as he uncovered his artistic skills. The markers were an investment, something of value well beyond the initial purchase.

The sermon is posted here. (The story was drawn from the novel Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.)

We are a congregation that is a part of ripple effects that we will never know.

This weekend we kicked off our annual stewardship campaign with the amazing “Saturday Night Live” dinner and show, and then on Sunday heard reflections from Jean Kader. The beautiful brochure is out, and we hope for a healthy time of giving.

The weekend had so much joy, but also came with challenges as members and staff dealt with losses and challenges. As the weekend unfolded, we came together and adapted for one another. Care is being shared in many ways as I write.

I am grateful to be a part of a congregation that lives into love consistently and that shares generously through joys and challenges.

In care,
Rev. Sue
