An Update on Talbot Interfaith Shelter

As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS), like so many other things, looks different.

TIS Ongoing and Upcoming Plans

  • Purchase of a second house, Evelyn’s Place, to provide five beds for single men and five for single women.
  • Maintain services for families at the original TIS house, Easton’s Promise
  • Lease 10 apartments for families who have graduated from the 4S (Shelter, Security, Support and Success) program
  • Develop a relationship with Habitat for Humanity Choptank as a pathway to permanent housing.

TIS During the Pandemic

During the pandemic, TIS was able to hire staff to safely cover everything while volunteers were asked to stand by and stay safe. Dinners were still provided by volunteers including the 9th of every month by UUFE volunteers. Thank you to everyone who provided meals! TIS also took advantage of having paid staff available 24 hours a day to modify the rules to allow guests to miss dinner hour and to return to the house after dinner to be able to work shifts outside regular business hours.

Get Involved

TIS hopes to reopen to volunteers in September and will continue using paid staff for evening hours.

The original 31 teams (one for each day of the month) are being rebuilt to fill volunteer shifts at Easton’s Promise from 8 am to 5 pm plus dinner.  UUFE covers the 9th of each month and we’d love to have you join us.
