November 8 Outreach Collection: AKA/KTO Scholarship fund

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) is an international service organization founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. AKA is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women, and is dedicated through service and advocacy to improve the quality of life and promote peace both locally and worldwide.

The Kappa Theta Omega (KTO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, serves Talbot, Dorchester, Caroline, Queen Anne’s and Kent counties and is active in many service projects including the Annual Community Health Fair and School Supplies Give-Away at the Multicultural Festival. Other projects include the Annual Salute to Middle School Youth Achievement, after school tutorial and mentoring assistance and Annual Scholarship Awards to graduating seniors. Additional activities include food/clothing drives, youth development and enrichment projects, partnerships to heighten awareness and provide resources to address those in need, and voter registration/education/get-out-the vote campaigns.

Support for service activities of the chapter comes from chapter members, fundraising activities, and community donations. The proceeds of the UUFE Outreach Collection will be used to help fund the Annual Scholarship Awards. Through this program worthy graduates from the five counties are selected to receive scholarships or book awards for college. Our $500 contribution last year funded the scholarship for Talbot County.

Please make your check out to AKA/KTO with Scholarship Awards in the memo line. This contribution is not tax deductable.
