We are excited to welcome everyone to our first Sunday or religious education on Sunday, September 11th. We will all gather in the sanctuary and the kids will be sung to their classes after the Thoughts for All Ages time as is usual during the school year.
We are lucky to have enough volunteers this year to run two Sunday morning RE classes in addition to our playroom. Our younger elementary class, PreK through third grade, will explore the World of Wonder curriculum. The UUA explains: “This program delves deep into our Unitarian Universalist seventh Principle. It is founded on the premise that direct experience in nature is essential to children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development.”
The older class, fourth through sixth grades (and through eighth if there’s interest!), will be working with the Sing to the Power curriculum. “Sing to the Power affirms our Unitarian Universalist heritage of confronting “powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love.” Participants experience their own power, and understand how it can help them to be leaders,” the UUA website explains.
Something we are envisioning for our middle and upper school youth this year is a Community Service Club. We will meet once Sunday evening a month and possibly other days throughout the month and complete at least four service projects together. Our first meeting will be Sunday, September 25th at 5:00 PM. We hope middle and high schoolers and their families will attend to show their interest and help us to plan events that center around important issues facing our community and the world at large.
Aside from our Sunday meetings, we will host several family fun nights throughout the year. Save the date for our first one–Saturday, October 1st.
Please make sure you are on our parent list to receive information about these upcoming events. And, as always, please email Patty Hamsher with any questions, comments, and suggestions. email@example.com
