Rebuilding Together Caroline County Maryland – Free home repairs
Rebuilding Together Caroline County Maryland was started in 2004. Its mission is to provide free home repair services in Caroline County to low-income elderly or disabled individuals or families with children who own and live in homes requiring necessary but unaffordable repairs or improvements. Volunteers assist each client in determining financial need and in determining the structural needs of the dwelling. Rebuilding Together will also refer unqualified applicants to other agencies where financial assistance may be available.
Rebuilding Together is a national organization. Rebuilding Together Caroline County is an affiliate – helping those who need small repairs to ensure their safety and comfort.
Locally, a 2003 survey counted 3,266 Caroline County residents living at or below the poverty level. A 2004 count found 249 substandard dwellings in the county, 72% of them owner-occupied. Caroline ranks as one of the poorest of Maryland’s twenty-three counties.
For 2016 our budget is $20,000. In 2015, we worked on 14 projects in 12 different homes. 41 volunteers participated giving 3211 hours of work. $20,541 was spent on materials.
